Implementing Trauma-Informed Care in Residential Programming

1

Provide training

I offer professional development workshops and training sessions for practices, organizations, schools, teachers and staff on trauma, attachment, and nervous system regulation informed practices. My goal is to educate individuals and organizations about the impact of trauma on behavior and how we can best provide trauma-informed care, no matter our organizational setting.

Support identification of strategies to support trauma-impacted students

2

I work closely with educators to identify students who may have experienced trauma and develop individualized plans to support their needs. I provide insights into trauma triggers, behaviors, and appropriate interventions.

Consultation and Case Collaboration

3

I offer consultation services to teachers and staff regarding specific students or situations. We collaborate to develop strategies and interventions to address trauma-related challenges in the classroom.

Foster a trauma-informed culture

4

I advocate for the implementation of trauma-informed policies and practices school-wide. My aim is to encourage the development of a supportive and safe school environment that addresses the needs of all students.

Educate on trauma signs and symptoms

5

My training helps educators recognize signs and symptoms of trauma in students, such as dissociation, hyperarousal, or withdrawal. I help them understand the connection between trauma and behavioral or academic difficulties.

Support self-care for educators

I educate educators about the impact of secondary trauma and the importance of self-care. I provide resources and techniques to help them manage their own stress and well-being.

6

Provide resources and materials

7

I curate and share resources, articles, books, and videos that help educators deepen their understanding of trauma-informed practices. I also offer suggestions for trauma-informed curricula and teaching materials.

Collaborate with the school counseling team

8

I coordinate efforts with school counselors or mental health professionals to provide comprehensive support to students who have experienced trauma. I share insights, collaborate on treatment plans, and provide feedback on progress.

Facilitate support groups

9

I offer to facilitate support groups or provide guidance on establishing trauma support groups for students. These groups can help students connect with peers who have had similar experiences and provide a safe space for healing and growth.

10

Assess and evaluate

I assist schools in assessing their current trauma-informed practices and evaluating their effectiveness. I provide guidance on data collection and analysis to measure the impact of trauma-informed approaches on student well-being and academic outcomes.

In addition to these services, I also focus on developing an understanding of how trauma and stress impact a student's ability to thrive in the classroom. I help educators respond to challenging behaviors from a trauma-responsive lens and understand how their own attachment patterns may influence their feelings and behaviors towards students.

Furthermore, I offer guidance to teachers on trauma-sensitive teaching strategies. I emphasize the importance of creating a structured and predictable learning environment, using trauma-informed language, and employing differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of trauma-affected students.
